A Flexible Spending Account is a special account you put money into that you use to pay for certain out-of-pocket health care costs. You don’t pay taxes on this money. This means you’ll save an amount equal to the taxes you would have paid on the money you set aside.
Flexible spending accounts taken equally out of your paycheck during the year. The amount you can contribute is $2,550 per employer ($5,100 per family). You can use the money immediately, so if you have an immediate need in January you can utilize the entire amount (almost like an interest free loan). The tax benefit alone could be substantial.
